08/27/2006Sorry, FredrikPerhaps it was the slightly cocky note I wrote the other day,
perhaps it was because I slightly mispelled his name (to my defence,
it's hard to find on online.effbot.net!). Either way, it seems like
I've offended you, Fredrik, and I apologize. I didn't mean to come
across arrogant nor condescending.
I must've overreacted to the frustration due to Zope constantly being
treated as the ...

08/24/2006Frederik Lundh is counting pagesFrederik
Lundh has counted the pages in the Zope Book till he found
something that remotely looks like Python. The number he came up with is
235. For the Django Introduction it's 5, the TurboGears Tutorial it's
4.
Doesn't surpsise me. Let's ignore the fact he's comparing an online book to
a bunch of tutorials for a minute. Zope 2 as described by that Zope Book
isn't ...

"But Zope 3 has no products!" Bzzzt. Wrong. As part of their regular open-source rounds, ZC just released a
bunch of Zope 3 related Python packages as open source. In fact, they
announced as many as 13 stable ones and three ones that are still
under development. Awesome.
This is a big step forward in invalidating one of the biggest reasons
for people to still choose Zope 2 over Zope 3 for new development:
"Zope 3 has no ...
Guido and LinusGuido likes Django. So what?
I've resisted joining the discussion before, mostly because I find it won't
lead to anything. We're the Python community, I get it. We have our own
frameworks which work well in different areas. The important thing is that
we have WSGI to help us work together once in a while.
And let's be honest: I admire Guido's design decisions in terms ...

08/23/2006How Python solves my daily problemsBruce Eckel loves Python. Not very surprisingly I agree with most
of his points in this presentation. Recently I've come to truly
appreciate one of them: Python makes automation easy. Bruce writes
that of course "it's possible to write programs to automate every
task, but you don't. Python makes it easy enough."
Python indeed lowers the bar enough to make it worth thinking ...

Wicked borgs eating sushi using Zope 3 technologiesI only wish that was the plot outline for the next StarTrek movie.
Too bad it's just random collection of words from the Plone
Conference 2006 agenda that was just posted today. Too bad? Not at all!
Looking at this preliminary agenda makes me want to go to Seattle even more.
Good thing I got the flight booked now. There's no way I can't go now.

08/13/2006Jeff Shell on Zope 3 and how Zope 3 does ka-boom!The Zope 3 buy-in
Jeff Shell is an old-timer with Zope but nowadays best known for his
helpful answers to Zope newbie emails on the Zope 3 users list. In
an interesting post of his today, he writes about Zope's evolving
development model and the framework's architecture:
Having developed on and for Zope for nearly ten years now, I can say
that there is no such thing as "traditional ...
08/01/2006R.I.P. Kupu?So, kupu
must die. Apparently that's not just one guys opinion, people are
questioning kupu's place in Plone.
Whether or not kupu has a future or not is hard to decide. Fact is, is
probably has only half of the features that this editor with the obscene name has.
And, much more importantly, it's pretty much only developed by three people.
FCKeditor or whatever it's called ...
